Activated charcoal is a porous carbon substance obtained by carbonization and activation of raw material. The outstanding feature of activated carbon is its high adsorption capacity.
Activated carbon contributes to the reduction of excessive flatulence after eating. (The beneficial effect of activated charcoal is achieved when 1 g is ingested at least 30 minutes before a meal and 1 g shortly after a meal.)
Due to the porosity of activated charcoal, its enormous internal surface allows it to adsorb a wide range of substances. The substance to be removed is brought into contact with the activated charcoal and then diffuses into the inner sphere of the pores.
It is the frequency of micropores and transport pores that determines the properties of the particular activated carbon used: In the structure of activated carbon made from coconut shells, micropores predominate significantly.
About vitamin C
Humans (as well as other primates or, for example, guinea pigs) cannot synthesize it, so they must take it in their diet. In the human body, vitamin C performs many important functions. For example, it contributes to a reduction in the level of fatigue and exhaustion and helps to maintain normal immune function during increased physical stress, to normal energy metabolism and to protect cells from oxidative stress.
